Hello, everyone! Today is the first of March! Most people will just think this is the start to yet another month, but you are wrong! Not only is it the start of yet another month, it is also St David’s Day! St David is the patron saint of Wales! The first of March is WELSH DAY!
(Note: I realise some of you may not know where, or what, Wales is. Wales is this little bastard that sticks off the side of England. We are a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, but please not Wales is not a part of England. We are our own little principality with our own customs and language. One of these customs is punching people who call us English. We are not as bad about that as Scotland but that is maybe because more people know about Scotland. We’re like the Canada of Europe, except people genuinely don’t know we exist).
How do you celebrate Welsh Day? Well, there is a full costume you can dress up in, which looks a bit like this if you’re a lady-identifying person and I can’t find a Google Image of the dude-identifying person national costume but believe me it is a thing! Most lads nowadays just wear a Welsh rugby shirt, but there is an actual old official costume thing, of short trousers, a waistcoat, shirt, and flat cap. For some reason men nowadays prefer the former. Or the dresses. (Men do a lot of cross-dressing in Wales. I think it’s the rugby).
You can also pin a daffodil or a leek to your shirt! I would recommend a daffodil cos leeks can be pretty big and it is easier to get a fake daffodil than a fake leek. Though fake leeks do exist and are adorable things made out of felt.
Now I am going to tell you some Welsh Facts so you can wear a daffodil/leek/small dragon and impress all your friends with your Welsh Knowledge!
